Session export: Island Retreat

Sofila was practically bouncing with excitement as they were on the boat towards the island. The boat also had grocieries that Sofila ordered ahead of time along with huge amount of snacks. She didn’t want to have to order food once while they stayed. She was really aiming for no interruptions whatsokarkinever this weekend. The island came in view along with the cute cottage.

“Cole!” Sofila had to hold back an excited squeal and it ended up as a small squeak. Kriff. She can only hope he would enjoy this. “Look!”

The island was a decent size. The cottage was under shade of the trees that looms above. The beach had sun shining on it and some areas were shaded. The driver docked the boat as he helped carried the load in while Sofila shifted to bouncing on the ball of her feet and trying to avoid zooming around. She took in a deep breath at the sea salt air and the waves- kark the sounds of waves! It was enough to relax her.

“So! The goal is to relax and take it easy so let me do the groceries and help the guy with the stuff, just look around or whatever, okay?” She grinned while quickly pecked Cole on the cheek when the driver entered into the cottage so he didn’t see. There was some small wildlife such as birds, lizards, and of course, fishes at the shallow water.

Cole wasn’t entirely sure what to do. Though he was sure if he tried to help unpack he’d be ushered away so following orders off of the boat and onto the island was probably smart.

He hit the sand, inhaling slowly. It was.. nice. Warm but the breeze took the worst of it off. It was deceptive and he’d likely burn quickly if he wasn’t too careful but.. yeah. Nice. He smiled ever so slightly once away from the boat and further up the beach toward the cottage, surveying the area. It wasn’t defensible at all but it didn’t have to be right?

That was the point of all of this.

It felt very odd for the point of something to be the exact opposite of his normal. But everytime Cole looked at Sofila she was smiling and a large part of him wished to never see that smile fade. The rest knew it was unrealistic. He shook his head, stepping into the cottage to take a look around at what they had facilities wise for the weekend. Instinct still had him noting entrances, weak points, the fact the windows weren’t really lockable and instead were made to deal with the weather. He also noted the layers of blankets on the bed, many but all quite thin. The rugs, plenty laid out on the wooden floor but also some stored away presumably in case of washing being needed. Or just a normal rotation?

Hm.

The Human was wearing his usual slacks but had been convinced to wear a lighter plain shirt rather than his usual button ups for the ride in. He’d packed a couple, but saw the intelligence in brining primarily lighter garments. He’d actually brought shorts along for this, swimming ones as well as just normal ones. Not that it mattered much, even the normal fabrics would dry quickly here.

Sofila thanked the man.

“Ya sure got a lot of food just for the weekend.” The man commented as Sofila scoffed.

“Look, them muscles are a lot of upkeep okay? Now shoo.” Sofila glared as the man nodded and wave them off as his boat left. He wasn’t coming back for three days. The smile remained on her face as she started to open every single window in the cottage. The bedroom? Bonus double doors out to the beach. Kark yea. She was going to sleep good tonight and she can only hope that Cole would too. Wanted to get the adult responsibilities away, she zoomed to the kitchen and started to put away the food properly. Snacks, food to cook, booze, and stuff to make eclairs. She never made them before and she hopes to karking suns that she would not kark that up. When she was done putting things away, she noticed that Cole was checking out the bedroom.

Perfect.

Made sure not to hide her footsteps so he can hear her approaching as she wrapped her arms around him and leaned down to plant a kiss at the side of his neck.

“Hopefully you like it! If not, that’s okay, I can plan something else next year then. If you want, we can even sleep on the beach, away from the waves, of course. At night or something.” Then she paused and realized how close the beach is to the bed. What would even be the point of sleeping on a blanket and hope that it won’t move where sand would get up in the ass?

“Actually, you know what, bed is comfier…”

“It’s nice.” Cole had responded initially, letting her talk away and considering it but.. decidedly not keen to sleep on sand. Even the softest finest grain of sand was still ultimately a very tiny rock.

It was a relief when she switched back to the bed.

Cole turned in her arms, wrapping his own loosely around her waist.

“You didn’t even wait for me to answer before giving me options to never do it again.” He pointed out with a gentle chuckle, “It’s different, to answer though. Not a bad different, but different.”

Sofila winced as she looked down at him.

“Right. Sorry. I was just trying to say if you end up happen not to like it you don’t have to hide from-” Then she groaned as she shifted her body weight in frustration.

“Then again you don’t hide things from me, I just-” She paused and laughed softly.

“I’m overthinking again, am I?” She took in a deep breath. This is Cole’s weekend. This is going to be an amazing weekend, kark it!

“Okay! I’m going to try to bake those… eclairs. You can do whatever, mmkay?” She grinned. If he allowed her, she leaned in a bit further and kissed him softly on the lips before pulling away and skipped her way into the kitchen.

“A little.” Cole admitted, chuckling slightly before meeting her in the middle for the kiss.

Right.

Do… whatever. What was whatever? She walked off to the kitchen and he headed outside, glancing over the beach and the waves and.. entirely unsure how to do whatever.

Walk? Would that take too long? Training would likely get Sofila on his back. Huh.

He had no idea.

Sofila was going to offer if he wanted to bake with her but- No. She wanted him to slowly get used to this. Not be shoved into this. With an excited smile, she clasps her hands.

“Right! Baking!”

~43 mins later~

The fire alarm went off as Sofila yelped loudly and quickly turned off the burner as she moved the, now burnt, custard from the stovetop. She has no idea where Cole was so she tried to find a fan as soon as possible to blow the smoke away from the fire detector so Cole wouldn’t come running in.

Cole hadn’t made it far, safe to say. He’d sat in the shade of the trees, somewhat bored and more so fidgety. Was this really what relaxing was? Wasn’t it meant to be enjoyable or something-

A fire alarm blared.

Usually he’d be more concerned but Sofila had told him she was cooking. So, rather than running to save her life, Cole took a still somewhat quickly paced jog to give her time to cover it up before he got there.

The alarm stopped a few seconds before he got inside the cottage, though stepping in he could still smell the burnt eggs on the air. He paused to shake the sand off of his feet with a towel while calling out, “You okay?”

The fire alarm stopped as the fan trick worked. Okay. That was good. Cole must’ve gone far enough to not hear-

“Aiiieee,” Sofila yelped at hearing Cole’s voice.

“Yes!” Sofila called back out to Cole as she placed the fan back down. “It’s all fine! I was just cooking, following the directions, was got to the custard part- by the way geez, they were not kidding about needing to keep a close eye on it– and got distracted by this-” She abruptly stopped and then whispered under her breath while her face turned hot.

“ᵗʰᶦˢ ᵗʰᶦⁿᵍ ᴵ ᶠᵒᵘⁿᵈ” Followed by a clear of her throat.

“I got this! It’s okay!”

Cole leaned against the doorway, tucking one foot behind the others heel.

“What did.. you find that distracted you that much?”

His tone was curious, not judgemental.

Sofila’s head shot to the doorway as she quickly turned to the sink so he wouldn’t see her blushing face and started to scrub the burnt custard out.

“Just… a thing. About… a thing. Yea. It’s silly really– Cole, would you say you have a… uhhhh-” She turned and gestured at the datapad for Cole to look.

Cole snorted after looking at the datapad, closing his eyes for a short moment before meeting her eyes directly.

“And that’s what distracted you so thoroughly?”

“Hey now! I was wondering about that for us, well, you more than me, and I might’ve, just a little bit,” She held up her fingers and shortened the gap between them, “Got carried away and completely forgot about the custard-” She stopped as she pouted playfully and set the sauce pan back on the stove now that it was cleaned out. She looked back over to Cole, her cheeks still slightly muddy-colored.

“It’ll be fine though! I bought extra just in case I burn.. something. And you can’t deny that it’s a bit fascinating to find out about! Course, I didn’t get to finish reading it until-” She gestured to all of the stove.

“Things got noisy.”

“Mhm.” Cole noted, shaking his head as she kept talking but the smile lingering on his face.

“I wouldn’t know, to answer the question. Or at least I’ve never bothered with labels like that enough to be able to apply them.”

“Oh! That.. kind of makes sense? I mean. Yea. I guess I just wanted to make sure you were happy and content with… you know.” She gestured over to the bedroom with a sly grin.

“I know I am and I am certain you do too- I just- I- I dunno. I guess I’m overthinking again. I may have a fear that you would find me boring? Eventually?” Sofila groaned as she took in a deep breath.

“Yep! I am totally overthinking!” She went to the fridge and got out another carton of eggs.

“Okay! Let’s try that custard again.”

“Sofila, the day I find you boring is the day you’ll almost certainly find something new to surprise me with.” Cole said gently, “You don’t need to try for me. Not like that.”

He didn’t move closer in, letting her handle the cooking herself even if a part of him wanted to take the lead and help. To teach. But no, she was doing fine. Inserting himself into the way would only cause problems.

Sofila laughed softly. “I do have that tendency, don’t I?” She looked over her shoulder at him with a grin before looking back at the directions and sighed.

“Maybe this is complicated after all but I wanted you to relax and rest.” After a few grumblings and a pout, “It’s okay if you don’t want to but uh- want to help me?”

“I just sat on the beach for forty minutes with kark all to do.” Cole admitted, hesistantly stepping forward so as to not look too eager.

“I can help.”

Oh. Sofila nodded eagerly before bending over at the island, her arms rested on the counter and dramatically faceplant into her arms.

“Cole, please help me.” Sofila sounded relief that he wants to help and a bit glad. Maybe this could help him enjoy a bit? Even though he has to make his own favorite karking dessert. She rose her head and glanced over to Cole and remembered something.

“Oh right, let meeeee-” She grabbed her datapad and removed the article that distracted her earlier and pull the recipe back up.

Cole chuckled slightly, shaking his head and moving the burned pan into the sink, dousing it in soap and hot water while Sofila got started.

This was a lot better.

Sofila let out a sigh of relief as Cole doesn’t seem to mind. In fact, it almost seemed like he rather do this. Hrm. That was fair. They were always busy and suddenly slowing down here. She got distracted by the sounds of the ocean before she remembered she was supposed to help cooking. Right.

Sofila started to clean the mess that was left on the stove to at least not worry about burning them when they start the stove. Nope. Too quiet. After the stove was clean, she grabbed the datapad.

She started to play some music that Cole and her both express like in.

“There we go!” She made sure it wasn’t too loud so they wouldn’t miss each other conversation or overpowering the waves from the ocean.
